Each summer Berklee empties its practice rooms into the city, sending students, faculty, and alumni to play more than 200 free concerts across Greater Boston. Stages pop up everywhere from Atlantic Wharf and the Boston Public Library to Spectacle Island out in the harbor, along with parks, plazas, and cultural institutions in between.

The playing is far better than “free student concert” suggests — these are musicians headed for professional careers, covering jazz, Latin, pop, and plenty in between. Check the schedule, pick a spot you already love, and let the music find you. It’s a low-commitment way to hear world-class talent while getting reacquainted with the city’s best public spaces.
