The North End saves its biggest weekend for the end of August, when Saint Anthony’s Feast — founded in 1919 by immigrants from Montefalcione, Italy — takes over Endicott, Thacher, and the surrounding streets under a canopy of lights. It’s the largest Italian religious festival in New England, the one National Geographic crowned the Feast of All Feasts, and it draws crowds in the hundreds of thousands.

Come hungry: roughly a hundred pushcarts and stands sell arancini, sausage and peppers, calamari, zeppole, and cannoli. The centerpiece is the hours-long procession, when Saint Anthony’s statue is carried through the neighborhood while devotees pin donations to it and confetti rains from the rooftops. With marching bands, strolling singers, and entertainment running all weekend, it suits just about everyone — just know the narrow streets get packed, and taking the T beats hunting for parking.
