The Museum of Fine Arts runs studio classes year-round in its Fenway building, and this summer intensive is one of the best of them: several consecutive days of concentrated work in watercolor and ink, taught in the museum’s own art studios. The pairing is classic illustration territory — the crisp line work of a dip pen laid over the loose, luminous washes of watercolor.

Sessions run long, four to five hours a day, moving through perspective, shape, and brush-and-pen technique while working from still lifes, landscapes, and figures, with the MFA’s collection just upstairs for inspiration. It’s open to everyone sixteen and up, from total beginners to lapsed painters, though students supply their own materials from a provided list. A good fit for anyone who wants real immersion rather than a once-a-week class.
