Cambridge Silent Reading Party at Porter Square Books
Event Details
There’s something quietly radical about a room full of Cantabrigians agreeing to be silent together. At Porter Square Books, the beloved independent shop on Mass Ave, the Silent Reading Party sets aside an hour for exactly that: bring whatever you’re reading — or pull something new off the shelves — find a seat, and read alongside a room of strangers doing the same.
When the hour is up, there’s a chance to compare notes on what everyone’s been reading, but it’s strictly optional; slipping out wordlessly is entirely in the spirit of the thing. It repeats monthly and it’s free, which makes it one of the lowest-stakes literary outings in Cambridge — ideal for introverts, book-club refugees, and anyone whose to-be-read pile needs a standing appointment.
