The Book of Esther in the Age of Rembrandt
Event Details
The Gardner’s Hostetter Gallery explores how the biblical heroine Queen Esther was portrayed in seventeenth-century Dutch art during Rembrandt’s lifetime. Paintings, prints, drawings and ceremonial Purim objects trace how Esther became meaningful to both Amsterdam’s Jewish community and the emerging Dutch nation. A companion installation, Michal Rovner: Esther Scrolls, runs concurrently in the Fenway Gallery.
