Nubian Square is the commercial and cultural heart of Roxbury, centered on the intersection of Washington and Dudley streets. Long known as Dudley Square, it was officially renamed Nubian Square in late 2019, with the MBTA’s busy transit hub following suit in 2020. The square is a vibrant, predominantly Black neighborhood center lined with locally owned shops, restaurants, civic institutions, and arts organizations.
The square has been a major Boston transit crossroads for more than a century, and Nubian station today serves as a key terminus for the MBTA’s Silver Line bus rapid transit and numerous local routes. Landmark buildings such as the restored Ferdinand building, now home to Boston Public Schools offices, anchor an area that blends historic architecture with ongoing revitalization.
